Alice in Wonderland

3DC
As a rule, I don't normally watch conversions but I have to say that I was impressed by Alice in Wonderland. After an inconsistent start in Alice's real world, once Alice entered Wonderland, the 3D looked excellent, even stunning at times. There was a strong depth to the 3D effect and both positive and negative parallax were evident throughout the proceedings. Also, objects had volume and there were definite spaces between them too. A sense of background, middle and foreground was usually evident. In fact, the 3D effect was better than some natively shot 3D films that I've seen. As excellent as the 3D was though, there were some small anomalies noticeable to the trained eye. Once in a while, there was some slight blurring where objects subtly moved in and out of their correct 3D placement. These occasional window violations were no doubt due to some sloppy, or lazy rotoscoping during the frame by frame conversion process. Having said that, it was only occasional and hardly noticeable. Overall though, Alice in Wonderland is an excellent example of how good a 3D conversion can look, when done properly. With that in mind, I have created a  new 3DC (3D Conversion) rating, purely for conversions, like Alice in Wonderland, that have been excellently done. Even so, I still prefer my 3D movies to be shot and rendered natively in 3D, (V)
